Before taking the ACLS course, students must pass the ACLS Pre-course Self-assessment with a score of 70% or higher. Instructions can be found on page 2 of your ACLS textbook.

Course Information

Please note that you will need to be able to perform the AHA CPR skills and must be familiar with basic dysrhythmia recognitionand pharmacology before the course. AHA current certification in BLS is a pre-requisite.

  • This course is designed for health care licensed professionals with basic EKG knowledge.
  • The ACLS course creates a confident approach to dealing with cardiovascular emergencies.
  • This course covers topics from oxygenation and airway management to AMI recognition and the nationally recognized cardiac arrest algorithms.
  • The full course is strongly recommended to those not familiar with EKGs, Algorithms, and Pharmacology.

ACLS is the advanced lifesaving course for:

  • physicians
  • nurses
  • paramedics
  • staff in intensive care units and emergency or critical care departments
  • other professionals who need an ACLS course completion card for a job or other requirements

ACLS is designed for personnel who staff ER departments, intensive care units, or critical care departments such as: DRs, nurses, ER technicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency. The ACLS Provider course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult (VF/VT) arrest. We believe in NO STRESS education for healthcare professionals. We teach how to be part of a knowledgeable team to provide high quality resuscitation care for your patients. Our goal is to teach you how to function within your role and scope of practice. This course is open to all new, current,and expired students. There is a mandatory pre-course assessment that must be completed prior to attending this course.

Concepts and skills covered in the ACLS course include:

  • Systems of Care
  • Effective High-Performance Team Dynamics
  • Assessment and Management of Respiratory Arrest
  • Acute Coronary Syndromes
  • Acute Stroke
  • Cardiac Arrest
  • Bradycardia and Tachycardia
  • Immediate Post-Cardiac Arrest Care

For successful course completion, students must:

  • demonstrate skills competency in all learning stations
  • pass the high-quality BLS skills test
  • pass the bag-mask ventilation with OPA/NPA insertion skills test
  • pass the Megacode test
  • pass the ACLS exam with a score of 84% or higher

Upon successful completion of the course, including achieving a score of 84% or higher on the course exam, students receive an ACLS course completion AHA E-card that is valid for two years.

The 2015 ACLS Provider Manual and online self-assessment are mandatory for this course.  ACLS students must complete the pre-requisites provided on page 2 of the textbook.  The online self-assessment is located at www.heart.org/eccstudent .  The code is located on the bottom of page II in the 2015 ACLS Provider Manual.  A score of 70% or higher is necessary to pass and print your certificate.  You must provide this certificate to your instructor before the start of class, or you will not be eligible to attend.  This is an AHA mandate.  There are no exceptions.

Eligibility for continuing education credit, full ACLS course:

  • Emergency medical services: This continuing education activity is approved by American Heart Association, an organization accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE), for 9.75 Advanced CEHs, activity number 16-AMHA-F2-0309 (must be claimed within 6 months of participation).

Eligibility for continuing education credit, ACLS update course:

  • Emergency medical services: This continuing education activity is approved by American Heart Association, an organization accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE), for 4.75 Advanced CEHs, activity number 16-AMHA-F2-0310 (must be claimed within 6 months of participation).

By claiming CAPCE credit, the claimant acknowledges the following: I understand that the American Heart Association as a requirement of CAPCE accreditation will submit a record of my course completions to the CAPCE AMS. I further understand that my course completion records may be accessed by or shared with such regulators as state EMS offices, training officers, and NREMT on a password-protected, need-to-know basis. In addition, I understand that I may review my record of CAPCE-accredited course completions by contacting CAPCE.

CAPCE credit must be claimed within 6 months of participation. CME/CE credit will no longer be available once the six-month credit-claiming period has elapsed.

Each student must have his or her own copy of the ACLS Provider Manual.

Students who successfully complete the course will receive a course completion AHA E-card valid for two years.
